OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT/SECTION

The overarching aim of the research function in DIFC Branch Dubai is to provide comprehensive insightful objective and actionable analysis to enable management internal divisions and clients to make informed strategic decisions. The research function is responsible for the managing all macro geopolitical and sectoral research pertaining to emerging markets across EMEA as well as managing global commodities research for MUFG as a whole. The research function is part of the wider MUFG Global Markets Research division and conducts analysis in close collaboration with global research colleagues which warrants a unified ONE MUFG coordinated approach.

  • MENA Research provides our customers with authoritative and insightful commentary and analysis on the MENA region as well as broader emerging markets within EMEA with a core emphasis on economic financial and sectoral research.
  • To fulfil our clients global needs our global research divisions are located in Tokyo Hong Kong Singapore London Dubai New York and Sao Paulo. Our research analysts collaborate closely across all regions and provide our customers with timely information and analysis.
  • Research materials are disseminated on regular basis and targeted to customers that have been requested to receive research by relationship managers customers themselves as well as to the general public on confidential consistent with MiFID II Research regulations. The research produced within the MENA region is not investment advice and does not provide securities recommendations.
  • Interactions with customers are through facetoface interaction in meetings via email communication video conferences and via regular conferences on research themes. Also as part of efforts to intensify the dialogue and relationship with customers we hold regular external speaker conferences wherein a leading member of the research community speaks on topical themes via video conference with clients and internal stakeholders listening in.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

  • Responsible for providing valueadded research used in regular publications and presentation materials for MUFG clients and internal stakeholders. Also involve daytoday research support predominantly to relationship managers and management.
  • The aim of the role is for the candidate to be a valuable member of the MENA research team and to contribute to MUFGs wider global research network.
  • The role will be reporting into the Director Head of Research Commodities ESG and Emerging Markets based in Dubai and will require beyond the scope of rigorous research analysis administrative tasks to enable the smooth functioning of the research team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To support the Director Head of Research Commodities ESG and Emerging Markets for the following:
  • Develop quantitative analysis and strategies to incorporate into research publications. This involves but not exclusive to the production of economic modelling frameworks charts slides and word format research.
  • Production and distribution of all research undertaken in DIFC Branch Dubai involving reports podcasts videos media and other platforms.
  • Ensure internal stakeholders are serviced through research marketing calls and client ad hoc requests (within compliance guidelines).
  • Partake in regular internal calls updating Global Sales on conclusions from quantitative analysis morning calls weekly meetings and provide timely analysis to market moving events.
  • After a period of time to partake and present in marketing roadshows and client conference calls as well as for internal staff.
  • Build and manage database files for the research team in DIFC Branch Dubai.
  • Assistance with business travel arrangement processing of expense claims and assistance in monitoring of compliance/procedures for the research team in DIFC Branch Dubai.
  • Undertake various training and development goals as identified on a regular basis in accordance with the Director Head of Research Commodities ESG and Emerging Markets.
  • The role holder will work closely not just with the research team in DIFC Branch Dubai but will actively collaborate with analysts in Global Markets Research and other MUFG research entities globally by:
  • Welcoming debate and discussion and enjoying having views challenged.
  • Being open in sharing quantitative analysis work with MUFG colleagues and thriving in a team environment.
  • Supporting other analysts by implementing quantitative analysis into research covered in different regions and for different asset class (for example FX rates sectoral analysis

WORK EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • This role will require initiative and independent judgment to create original analysis with an ability to respond quickly to client and internal stakeholder requests and issues.
  • There will be an expectation to make the necessary decisions to carry out responsibilities and meet primary goals and objectives as well as evaluate and escalate more complex issues and/or problems.
  • Previous experience in research related teams in banks and/or leading institutions in planning work.
  • Financial background and competency.
  • Financial accounting experience/qualifications desirable.
  • Previous experience of undertaking economic research work

EDUCATION

  • BA/BSc degree in Economics Finance or data analytics related field of research.
  • MA/MSc degree in Economics Finance or data analytics related field of research preferred.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • Strong analytical skills with experience in financial modelling and detailed spreadsheet work.
  • Excellent organisational skills with an ability to prioritise heavy workloads to key deadlines.
  • Excellent IT spreadsheet modelling and numeracy skills.
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft excel word and powerpoint a prerequisite
  • English language skills both written and verbal (Japanese and Arabic advantageous)
  • Excellent relationship building coordination and problemsolving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail quality and timemanagement

Preferred:

  • Some experience in a similar financial market research role an advantage but not essential.
  • Sound knowledge of MENA regional economic and political issues as well as an understanding of how a quantitative perspective to the analysis already produced would add value.

PERFORMANCE AND DUTIES

The role holder will be assessed in accordance with their employing entitys performance framework and process with relevant input obtained from the dual hatting entity as relevant.

As duties and responsibilities change the job description will be reviewed and emended in consultation with the role holder. The role holder will carry out other duties as are within the scope spirit and purpose of the role as requested by their line manager or Department Head.

MANAGING CONFLICTS OF INTEREST (ONLY FOR DUAL HATTED ROLES)

  • The role holder will have responsibilities for both MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc.
  • The role holder will be required to perform their duties and responsibilities on an entity neutral basis without favour.
  • The role holder is required to follow regulatory requirements applicable to ensure each business is appropriately supported and to maintain the legal entity integrity of each of MUFG Bank and MUS.
  • Working terms are dictated by functional mandates the terms of the DualHat Arrangement Agreement in place between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc and any other relevant agreements entered into between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc.
  • The role holder will have responsibility for identifying and resolving where there may be a difference or conflict in needs between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc escalating to their manager where required.
